Slate Roof Hook
1. Product Overview
The Chudu Metal Stainless Steel Solar PV Slate Roof Hook is specially designed for mounting photovoltaic systems on pitched slate roofs and other compatible low-profile roofing structures.
Compared with conventional tile roof hooks, the slate roof hook features a long, low-profile hook arm designed to pass beneath thin slate tiles while connecting the roof supporting structure to the aluminum solar mounting rail.
The extended base plate is securely fixed to the roof rafter or timber supporting structure using suitable structural screws. The hook arm passes beneath the slate covering and extends to the required mounting position above the roof surface. The elongated upper slot provides a convenient connection point for the solar mounting rail and allows rail positioning during installation.
The standard version is manufactured from SUS304 stainless steel, providing excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and long-term outdoor durability. SUS316 stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized Q235 / Q235B carbon steel versions are also available according to project requirements.
Hook length, thickness, offset, base plate dimensions, and rail connection details can be customized according to different slate roof structures and photovoltaic mounting systems.

4. Why Is a Special Slate Roof Hook Required?
Slate roofs differ from conventional clay or concrete tile roofs because slate tiles are generally thinner, flatter, and more brittle.
A standard high-profile tile hook may create excessive interference or require excessive modification of the roofing material.
The Slate Roof Hook uses a longer and lower-profile arm to pass beneath the slate covering while connecting directly to the structural roof support.
This design helps provide a stable mounting point for the photovoltaic rail while reducing unnecessary contact with the slate tile.

7. Product Function
The Solar PV Slate Roof Hook provides the structural connection between the roof supporting structure and the aluminum photovoltaic mounting rail.
The extended base plate is securely fixed to the roof rafter using suitable structural screws. The long hook arm passes beneath the slate roofing material and extends above the roof surface.
The aluminum solar mounting rail is then attached to the elongated upper slot using matching bolts and rail nuts.
Multiple slate roof hooks are installed along the roof structure to support the mounting rails. The photovoltaic modules are subsequently secured to the rails using compatible mid clamps and end clamps.
8. Installation Method
- Identify the position of the roof rafter or suitable structural support.
- Carefully remove or lift the slate tile at the required installation point.
- Position the extended hook base plate on the roof rafter.
- Secure the base plate with suitable structural screws or wood screws.
- Check that the long hook arm is correctly positioned beneath the slate covering.
- Reinstall or reposition the slate tile around the hook. Local slate modification may be required depending on the roof construction.
- Position the aluminum solar rail against the elongated upper connection slot.
- Install the matching bolt, washer, and rail nut.
- Adjust the rail position and alignment.
- Tighten all fastening components according to the mounting system requirements.
- Continue installation of the remaining hooks, rails, clamps, and photovoltaic modules.
